Flocculant screening and selection tests would examine the relative effectiveness of various flocculants by dose requirement, varying charge density, and molecular weight at known solids concentration and pH of the sample.  Relative effect on settling rate and clarity of supernatant reported for each test.  Flocculants from selected manufacturer or multiple manufacturers can be examined.  These tests are often a precursor to formal thickening and filtration tests.
