Laboratory Services: Filtration Tests

Capabilities

Vacuum and/or pressure filtration tests can be conducted on relatively small quantities of sample slurry.  Tests conducted will collect a general set of data that would describe filter operation and performance in terms of production rate and achievable cake moistures.  Cake washing and recovery information can also be collected.

Vacuum Filtration

A general set of vacuum filtration data will be collected (generally on thickened feed pulp) to examine the effect of filter feed solids, cake thickness and dry time on production rate and filter cake moisture, thus enabling the design and sizing of various types of vacuum filters.  Samples will generally result from thickening tests, or pilot plant operations.  

Data collected would allow for the following determinations:

1. Vacuum filtration and washing tests to collect a general set of filtration data to design and size vacuum filters.
2. Examine the effect of cake thickness, and air blow duration on production rate and filter cake moisture
3. Examine the effect of various wash volumes on solute removal, and determine by material balance calculations, the relative amount of wash water required to achieve a solute removal goal.
Pressure Filtration
A general set of pressure filtration data will be collected (generally on thickened feed pulp) to examine the effect of filter feed solids, cake thickness and air blow duration on production rate and filter cake moisture, thus enabling the design and sizing of pressure filters.  Samples will generally result from thickening tests, or pilot plat operations.  

Data collected would allow for the following determinations:

1. Pressure filtration tests to collect a general set of filtration data to design and size pressure filters.  
2. Examine the effect of cake thickness, and air blow duration on production rate and filter cake moisture.  
3. Examine the effect of various wash volumes on solute removal, and determine by material balance calculations, the relative amount of wash water required to achieve a solute removal goal.
